The Erstwhile Rail Companies

These awe inspiring rooms take you back in time and give you the seclusion one needs to enjoy your stay at the Chanakya BNR. Inspired by the Erstwhile Railway Companies like the South-Eastern Railway and the Bengal Nagpur Railway to name a few, each room speaks the of the grand history of the Railway companies from a bygone Era. The colonial furniture, antique feel and subdued lighting add to the historical value. Your mood will be further enhanced by the wide balconies and the spacious bathrooms. Enjoy the cool sea breeze in your private balcony or just sit out and immerse yourself in the grandeur and the mystique of the railways.
Sample Art work displayed in this category of rooms is displayed below – (Left) Bombay Central station was the main city station for long distance trains on the Bombay Baroda & Central India Railway, (Center) This is one of the earliest photographs of a train on the Indian railways after it ran on the Great Indian Peninsula Railway on April 16, 1853, (Right) A view of Bhore Ghat reversing station which helped in tackling the steep gradient on the Bombay – Poona line on the Great Indian Peninsula Railway.

The Hill Railways

Hidden away on the Ground Floor of the property, these rooms provide the perfect peace of mind one needs to enjoy Puri. An atmosphere of days gone by; it is like travelling back in time. These rooms offer a spell-binding interior, which is a testimony to the architectural genius who designed it during the Raj. Located in the more antiquated part of the building, one is fascinated by the Jack Arch Ceiling rarely found these days. Its just a short walk away from the Garden, Restaurant as well as the Lawns. This was the first train carrying through coaches.

The Princely State Railways

Situated in the vintage part of the building these 7 rooms are designed for the connoiseus. Each room has a different wall colour scheme subtly matched with its upholstery and wooden flooring. These first floor luxury rooms give one the exclusive privacy that is required to enjoy the long corridors as well as the sea view from the Chanakya BNR hotel. The rooms are equipped with high speed internet along with custom made furniture adding to their royal decor.

The Royal Saloon

Indulge in the luxury of this two bed room suite. The view of the sea and the surrounding greenery from the private verandas is simply breathtaking.  When you enter this suite you will see the art work of a train which was specially designed for the Prince and Princess of which they used during their journey in in the year 1905. The interiors of these rooms are done up in a Classic Colonial Contemporary style, with all the modern amenities. These Rooms have been customised and designed for the discerning and the pampered guest.

the great rail bridges

Bridges all over the world are a tribute to man’s desire for advancement in the face of nature’s power and a symbol of strength and fortitude. As a tribute to the magnificent rail bridges built by the Indian Railways across the many great rivers, we have named these eight rooms after the same. These rooms are tastefully done up in the imperial style and are reminiscent of the grandeur of Indian Railways. These rooms will take you back in time to another era… another world.
